The adapter can only be installed in a CardBus PC Card slot in a suitably
equipped computer. The adapter contains a built-in radio antenna that protrudes
when inserted into the slot.
The Intel® PRO/Wireless 5000 LAN Adapter allows
Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) 3.3-volt Type
II PC Card slot-equipped computers to configure, connect to and establish an
Intel® PRO/Wireless 5000 LAN network.
The exposed end of the adapter is vulnerable to damage from
scratching, snagging or striking other objects. Such contact may bend or break
the adapter or the PC Card slot in which it resides.

PROSet II Software
The PROSet II LAN Software utility is a Windows application that allows you
to configure, manage, and set up security encryption for your PRO/Wireless 5000
LAN CardBus or PCI Adapter.
If the software installation program displays
the message "PROSet II cannot be installed due to an incompatibility with
the currently installed adapter driver," remove the driver for your Intel
PRO/100 wired Ethernet adapter and install an updated wired Ethernet driver from
the installation CD-ROM. Then restart the software installation.
If a message displays indicating that the
installation CD-ROM is corrupted, restart the computer and run the installation
software again.
Once installed, PROSet II software can be accessed from the System Tray by
clicking on the green icon. When you select your PRO/Wireless LAN Adapter,
PROSet II displays the following tabs: General, Setting, Mobility, Network
Driver, Statistics, and Diagnostics. For detailed information about each of
these tabs, press F1 on your keyboard with PROSet II open for online Help, or
view Configuring with Intel® PROSet II.
The Windows installation instructions
above include the steps required for installation of PROSet II software.
Zero Configuration Feature (Microsoft Windows XP only)
The Microsoft Windows XP Zero Config feature provides a built-in wireless
configuration utility that can be used in place of PROSet II software under
Windows XP only (a similar feature is available under Windows 2000). This
feature is enabled and disabled in Windows XP. You may use either the Zero
Config utility or PROSet II, but not both together. If Zero Config is enabled
and PROSet II is loaded under Windows XP, the Windows XP Zero Config wireless
utility will override PROSet II. The PROSet II main screen will display the
current status and signal strength information. However, profiles in PROSet II
are disabled and cannot be activated.
